I left my vial at room temp for a while - is it dead?

Updated 2026-05-03

Short room temp trips are usually fine. Sustained heat is the problem, especially above 77 F for several hours. If it's Wegovy (semaglutide) in a pen, the published prescribing label permits up to 86 F for up to 28 days before the first use. If it's a research peptide in a plain vial with no stabilizers, be more conservative. A trip of a few hours under 77 F is generally okay. More than 8 hours of heat, direct sun, or a hot car - toss it.

Thenthen it's likely fine - inspect visually before using
IfIf it was above 86 F or out for 8+ hours
Thenthen discard and replace
IfIf you travel with it
Thenthen use an insulated cooler pack
IfIf it's been in and out of the fridge many times and you're near day 28
Thenthen replace it
Key facts
  • Wegovy (semaglutide) pen: prescribing label permits up to 86 F for up to 28 days before first use
  • Research peptides in water: max 77 F; short trips under 2 to 4 hours at 68 to 77 F are tolerable
  • Freeze-dried (unmixed) powder is more heat-tolerant than mixed solution
  • Some peptides have heat-sensitive amino acids in their structure - check your peptide's specific guidance if you're unsure
  • Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles with sensitive peptides
