Basics & Technique
I missed my weekly GLP-1 dose - what do I do?
Updated 2026-05-03
Check how many days are between now and your next scheduled dose. If you have more than 2 days until your next shot, take the missed dose right now and stay on your normal schedule. If your next shot is less than 2 days away, skip the missed dose and just take the next one on your regular day. Never double up to make up for a missed week - that spikes side effects without extra benefit.
IfIf your next dose is more than 2 days away
Thenthen inject the missed dose now and continue with your normal weekly day
IfIf your next dose is 2 days or less away
Thenthen skip the missed dose entirely and take the next one as scheduled
IfIf you missed two or more weeks in a row
Thenthen drop back to the previous lower dose to re-titrate, or message your prescriber
IfIf you want to permanently change your injection day of the week
Thenthen make sure at least 48 hours have passed since your last dose, then inject on the new day
Key facts
- Semaglutide has a half-life of about 7 days - one missed dose still leaves drug in your system
- For Ozempic specifically, the published label allows up to 5 days late before skipping
- For Wegovy and Zepbound, the rule is the 2-day window in either direction
- Multiple consecutive missed doses raise the risk of severe nausea on restart - drop back to step down
- Doubling a dose does not double the effect - it only doubles GI side effects
